iPad and iPhone Apps / Re: Import from Mail

maybe its an easy one

Think about the priority this way: users only import once, but it's one of the first things they see of the app.

Sorry, I did look there but zoned out because of the sheer number of on/off switches. Personally I'd prefer auto-refresh to be global.

It would have to happen on activation. I use RSS frequently so the app rarely gets killed. Also the average user would be very confused if tapping an icon on the home screen does different things depending on how much memory is left.

Was it because you wanted to get to it later?

Yes. After importing everything was unread, but I had read most items before exporting.

or because you use the 'unread articles' list to help navigate?

Yes, I usually do.

iPad and iPhone Apps / Re: Parse Yahoo pipes feeds
« on: August 05, 2011, 08:52:24 AM »
I imported the feed as OPML from the clipboard. The & in the URL was escaped as %26. feedHopper can't handle that and said "URL not a feed or format unknown". Once I adjusted the URL it parsed fine.

However I have a feeling this should have been & all along, so the bug is in whatever created the OPML. Another program I tried couldn't import it either.

iPad and iPhone Apps / Parse Yahoo pipes feeds

I use a feed that is run through a Yahoo pipe for some server-side filtering. feedHopper can't read it.

iPad and iPhone Apps / Smooth Instapapering
« on: August 04, 2011, 09:54:09 AM »
The first time I tapped Send to Instapaper I was told where to configure my account. Why was there a dismiss button but no "take me there"?

It also seems silly to have to dismiss a confirmation alert every time I send something. The grey overlay and spinner are feedback enough.

iPad and iPhone Apps / Mark unread

After import feeds I may want to mark all except the newest item read. I tried by marking all read but then couldn't find how to mark one item unread. Seems like this would be useful in other cases, too.

Is it possible to have feedHopper refresh on launch, unless it was run in the last n hours? Fewer taps = more fun!

That the FAQ explains the clipboard workaround doesn't make it less crazy. How about supporting "Open In"?

BTW both the FAQ and help text in the import dialog mention a save button. I only see a close button.

iPad and iPhone Apps / (resolved) Problematic feeds

http://gtweetapp.appspot.com (I could message you the exact URL) doesn't work well in feedHopper, after every refresh there's a seemingly random number of unread items, most of which I already marked read the last time. Maybe the RSS is broken, but my desktop reader handles it fine.

Thanks, your test worked fine. So I tried NNW again, whose OPML is different only in that it says version 1.1, and it worked as well! Maybe I did something wrong yesterday.

I don't need nested folders, so just disregard this thread...

BTW nice touch that feeds I already added are filtered out of the import panel.

NetNewsWire for the Mac can write "groups" to OPML. feedHopper imported that fine, but flattened the hierarchy. Creating "categories" instead would be nice.
